Thundercloud Preview – Mick Fanning Wipeout At Huge Cloudbreak
On June 8th 2012, Mick Fanning was one of the brave WCT surfers that decided to paddle out at Cloudbreak regardless of the ASP Volcom Fiji Pro being called off for the day.
Cloudbreak was HUGE! The wind wasn’t exactly perfect but as the afternoon wore on, the wind lightened, swung around to a more offshore direction and the waves started to clean up and turn on! Along with Ace Buchan, Fanning grabbed a borrowed board from Hawaiian Big Wave Surfer Kala Alexander and stroked out to the line up without a safety vest on, just board shorts!!
This preview segment of the internationally award winning documentary ‘Thundercloud’ is just a taste of what the complete production is like.
In Hainan, China a young surf scene is caught in-between the government
trying to develop the area and the Surf Industry trying to capitalize on the
fast growing destination. Ghost Town refers to one of the west’s current
perception of China and the fact that this amazing strip of coast could
become a lost surfing frontier. Please Support!!
Being a surfer in Holland isn’t easy. No waves, it’s freezing balls and when all the forces of nature do cooperate it’s already dark. So that one time a year the swells gets good and the sun is down you have to be resourceful…
“We need to teach the next generation”.
Fergal Smith isn’t your average surfer. Having grown up on an organic vegetable farm in Ireland, Fergal learned the importance of family, food and a healthy lifestyle from a young age. Despite travelling far and wide in search of waves, Fergal remains true to his roots and continues to live in Ireland to this day having established a community garden on his farm Moy Hill. Desillusion editor Pierre David spent 4 days with Fergal in his hometown of County Clare to gain a deeper insight into Fergal’s world and the importance of living a self sustaining and happy life.
This short film is based on the article “It’s a long way from Clare to here” published in Desillusion Magazine 48 , Tome 4 available on bit.ly/1yyNUC4

Kai Barger spent a little more time at home this fall. In doing so he traded points on the WQS for clips in the hard drive vault. We are stoked on his efforts and put together a season’s edit. A few clips from our film Attractive Distractions interlaced into his productive start to the winter season. Kai often surprises us in his well rounded surfing, further showcasing Maui as the hotbed for talent. Enjoy the edit and look forward for more in the near future
