Low Earth Orbit #05 :: Skiing Teton Pass
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.”
-John Muir, The Mountains of California
Skier: George Hein
Shot on Mt. Glory, Teton Pass, Wyoming
Music: Aphex Twin – Avril 14th
Glen Plake’s Chamonix
from Backcountry Magazine
“Chamonix has a reputation worldwide as one of the greatest ski towns on earth; a lot of serious skiing, serious climbing, just big and dangerous and cool,” says Tom Runcie of Crested Butte, Colo. Along with CJ Carter, of Bozeman, Mont., Runcie headed to the French Alps two seasons back to ski alongside Glen Plake as part of a contest thrown by Julbo. And following the trip, Julbo produced this short film about their week chasing the legend around his grand stomping grounds. “He has something to say about every peak, and it’s really neat to experience that and have him as a guide,” Runcie says. For his part, Carter calls it “kind of surreal.”

Prime Time – McRae Williams
Last fall, instead of waiting around for the snow to fly in the states, McRae packed up and headed to Austria with the US Freeskiing team to prepare for the season ahead. Just one hour from the beautiful city of Innsbruck lies the Stubai Glacier, host of the Prime Park Sessions and the biggest jumps in the world that time of year. It is here that McRae would spend the next two weeks getting comfortable in the air again, and possibly learning a trick or two. The mountains were absolutely incredible, with tall jagged peaks towering about steep narrow valleys, definitely a sight to see.
