Dodging disaster with Medina | The Search by Rip Curl
from Rip Curl
Not the first thing Gabriel Medina was expecting as he exits the barrel to set up his first turn. A sketchy near disaster with a calculated save… on The Search it doesn’t always go to plan.
“We need to teach the next generation”.
Fergal Smith isn’t your average surfer. Having grown up on an organic vegetable farm in Ireland, Fergal learned the importance of family, food and a healthy lifestyle from a young age. Despite travelling far and wide in search of waves, Fergal remains true to his roots and continues to live in Ireland to this day having established a community garden on his farm Moy Hill. Desillusion editor Pierre David spent 4 days with Fergal in his hometown of County Clare to gain a deeper insight into Fergal’s world and the importance of living a self sustaining and happy life.
This short film is based on the article “It’s a long way from Clare to here” published in Desillusion Magazine 48 , Tome 4 available on bit.ly/1yyNUC4

Shaping Safi – MOROCCO
from Unai Borda
Iñigo Idigoras “Palotes” and Eduardo Gomez “Peta”. Safi, Morocco.
This two guys decided to make a trip to Morocco. They taught the locals how to fix and shape surfboards. Sourceless and without knowledge about the matter, the locals where unable to do this things so they can continue surfing.
The target was to make them understand shaping basics while sharing an intercultural experience. We learnt that the moroccan hospitality has a well earned reputation. They surprised us being accommodated in their homes, feeding us with their delicious local food and sharing with us the great waves that this country has to offer (we had the opportunity to watch and even surf with legends like Tom Curren or Tim Boal).
Two boards where made in this trip, the first two surfboards shaped in Safi. One was made by Palots, owner from “Ilussions Surfboards” and the other one by the owner of “Peta Surfboards” Peta.
Thanks for all and enjoy them guys.
